Instead of presenting a relatively straight forward therapy which, at its core, aims to tease apart the person from the “problem” with respect to each persons lived experience, this book presents the reader with a post modernist manifesto with remarkably little depth and embarrassingly little attention to the accomplishments of mainstream psychology. The authors elevate the ideas of Foucault to such lofty heights they fail to see that the hierarchy they’re really against has rarely equated the person with the problem— a critique much better leveled towards medicine and psychiatry, if at all (as such a critique would have to ignore the entire field of medicine and most of biology). In short this book reads as a postmodernist social justice manifesto masquerading as critical thought.
